FIFTH GRADE MUSIC CHALLENGE!
Our fifth grade classes begin the school year by taking a written test covering all of the items they will be learning during the year. Tests are scored and results are shared. Following months of instruction, the students will repeat the same test in the spring. This test is not for a grade. Students are competing for the title of "FIFTH GRADE MUSIC CHAMPION." The winners and runners-up will be recognized at our end-of-the-year awards ceremony. (My primary goal is to see gains made by EVERY student)!
The following items/concepts are included on the test:
Pentatonic Melodic Dictation, Rhythmic Dictation, Writing Major Scales, Naming notes on both the treble and bass clef staff, identifying types of notes & rests (quarter, half, whole, eighths, sixteenths, dotted half, "syn-co-pa,") and the following terms:
Rhythm, pitch, beat, unison, harmony, canon/round, tempo, dynamics, crescendo, decrescendo, forte, piano, staff, lyrics, genre, ostinato, form, "march form," processional, melody, melodic direction, medley, range, spirituals, coda, fine, Name the 4 instrument families & give examples, band vs. orchestra, chord, counter-melody, repeat sign, introduction, whole step, half step, sharp, flat, play, musical, opera, concert, National Anthem Facts
