FOURTH GRADE MUSIC STUDENTS WILL LEARN:

2. Rhythms: TIcka-Ticka, Ta, Ti-Ti, Rest, half note, Ti-Ticka, Ticka-Ti, whole notes, half notes, dotted half notes, syncopation
3. Conducting in 2/4 4/4 & 3/4 meter (downbeat vs. upbeat)
4. Form
5. Melodic Dictation
6. Steady beat vs. Rhythm
7. How to follow a "listening map" to engage in "Critical Listening"
8. New Music terms: phrase, pitch, form, canon, ostinato, repeat sign, sharp, flat, treble clef, bass clef, introduction, names of lines/spaces, etc.
9. Equal vs. Unequal rhythms
10. Instrument Families & Individual Instruments
11. Music from various composers, time periods & cultures
12. African American Spirituals
13. Playing and/or singing ostinatos
14. The Star Spangled Banner: History of & meaning of lyrics
We will be engaging in a variety of singing, listening & movement activities
Children will have the opportunity to create their own melody and rhythm
patterns to perform for (or with) the class.
